This is the first book I have read/listened to by this author and I’m looking forward to book two. The chapters are divided amongst several main characters : Jack, Colleen, Laura, Dan, and Craig. One a scientist, another feeling, he has nothing left, a junkie, a woman on her own and a woman with her husband and kids.
I enjoy how we are getting the story from so many different angles and perspectives, and of course, being in a confined area to a degree, their paths cross or likely will cross.
There is definitely a creep factor to these books.
Like many post apocalyptic books the story involves the depraved side of humanity. But this is not just a story of someone trying to get across an unreasonable long distance to find another family member during an apocalyptic event. There is a lot more to this story, which I cannot say without spoiling anything- what I can say is…I am extremely interested to see where this story is going!

There is swearing, discussion of pedophilia; child abduction, abuse and murder; discussion of adult rape and murder. The violent acts are discussed, but not but not excessively described.

This is the twelfth book I have listened to by this narrator. I enjoy everyone of his renditions. He brings natural voices to all the characters, and although in this book, he does not really use accents to differentiate his characters, all do have separate voices and personalities. He narrates this post apocalyptic genre style well.

Unfortunately, there is a background crackle to the quality of the audio. It is most noticeable during pauses or silences. Kind of sounds like the noise from a scary movie where a bunch of beatles or bugs are scrambling towards you -or tiny bots. I was able to eventually able to ignore it during the majority of the book. I was not listening with headset, in which it may have been a bit more noticeable. However, the story and the narrator do help to overcome this.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this unbiased review.
