Mother includes the stark reality of history’s greatest mass murderer, Mao. The inclusion of Mao’s biographical information helps one see the cold hatred and violence in context. The chapters on the impact of Mao on Korea, Vietnam, and Cambodia is extremely important, too.
I could not help but see ideological connections to the statements and actions of American groups who ruthlessly attack or cancel their enemies. Hopefully the influence of Mao will fade, but I suspect that other ideologically motivated sociopaths will try to continue Mao’s work in many places, including America.
