Middle Aged Mom here. I could not be farther from the “Intended Audience” for this book. DCC and it’s sequels are a funny, weird and touching story of friendship and devotion that follows the journey of Carl, bedecked in undersized crocs and boxer shorts, and the Dazzling Princess Donut.
I was several chapters in before I realized this was Survivor in the D&D world. Upon description, my kids knew immediately and immediately questioned the book’s quality, regardless of Redditors’ Recommendations. The gentle hearted mercenary and his charming beauty contest champion is an old concept… though maybe not ever like this before.
By far, my biggest LOL came when Carl’s catchphrase is coined … the Narrator rises the line from gimmick to gold.
