I’m going to give up on finishing this one. I’m about a third of the way through and just don’t care about any of the characters. The narration is awesome, I just finished listening to another series with Jessica Threet as the main female character, she’s got incredible range, going from sweet and naive Qube to Sexy Scary Spider Lady.
I love this style of narration, having the main narrator and then having all male dialog read by a male, female by a female. It must be logistically challenging to sound engineer, but I love it.
The worldbuilding is unique and this should appeal to anyone who loves the idea of refusing to follow the designated quests and side questions, instead looking for the fastest way through a game. THere’s no leveling up or stats sheets since it’s all from the viewpoint of an NPC.
But our main player is only seen through Qube’s eyes, he’s not a sympathetic character at all, and Qube and the other characters are still far too NPC-like for me to be emotionally invested.
