The heroine: Mercy – her father is in prison and Gabriel is the only one who could help her protect him and hire him a good lawyer to get an appeal. He is in prison for murder, because he killed the man that tried to rape her. Though it was an accident. Then he was getting beat up in prison by the cousin of the man he killed. Mercy felt she had no other choice but to go along with what Gabriel wanted, if she wanted her dad to live. Though she promised both Gabriel and herself that her heart would never be involved.

The Hero: Gabriel – he and his brother Caleb are sons of a mob boss who is in prison for laundering money. In the three years since their father went to prison, they opened an exclusive nightclub that is very successful. They use their nightclub to launder money for their father and uncles drug business. However, both Gabriel and Caleb want to get out of the drug business and be legitimate. They don’t want to end up dead or in prison like their father.

The Story: Gabriel and Caleb have a plan to get out from under their family’s thumb and go legit like they have wanted for years. They are aligning themselves with two brothers from a former rival family (the family that raped and killed their mom when they were young). The two brothers also want to go legit. Their father is sick and has only a year to live but their oldest brother Miles is as bad or worse than their father, he was actually the one who brutally raped Gabriel and Caleb’s mother before their father put a bullet in her head. So, the four of them came up with a mutually beneficial plan in which Gabe and Caleb will kill Miles and the other two will hire someone to take out Gabriel and Caleb’s father in Prison.

There is also a plan to get Gabriel and Caleb’s father to hire out his deadliest hitman to kill their uncle who has been running the drug business while their father is in prison. They got evidence that the uncle was the one who ratted to the feds and got their father locked up to begin with. Meanwhile, Gabriel is trying his best to keep Mercy from getting too much information about what is going on because the more she knows, the more danger she might be in, and it is also very dangerous for him to tell her anything about the illegal business because he has only known her for a short time.

The last book had an explosive cliffhanger ending and this book started right away with a whole bunch of action and big things are happening. I don’t like the fact that the story of Gabriel and Mercy’s romance is told over four books. I would rather have two or three longer books, or one really long book. Especially in audiobook format. Though I do love that there is a lot of story, a lot of romance, and plenty of steam. The chemistry between this couple is terrific and I really like both characters. So much happened in this book, I can’t wait to find out what is next.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Alex Kydd and Ada Sinclair. Alex Kydd is a good narrator; I like the voice he uses for Gabriel; it is kind of low and gravelly. He is great at using completely different sounding voices for other characters as well. Ada Sinclair has a soft, feminine voice which I find I really like.
