For me, this was the best book of the series. I finally felt an emotional connection between the two main characters.

The story had some personal elements for me. Throughout the series, I struggled to connect with Spencer because I can’t imagine leaving my siblings behind. Spencer wasn’t given many choices, but … As an oldest sibling with really dreadful parents, I wanted him to fight back a little harder. This is a personal thing. I don’t have patience for passive heroes. I don’t think Spencer did anything wrong. My tiny little brain just can’t comprehend nonviolence in this situation.

The conflicts are mostly resolved, but the series does have one more book. Maybe I will get my vengeance…
