The bad news is there is another EMP survival book, the good news is this is better than most. The main character Joe is everyman. Unprepared and a bit naively he has done some hunting and knows how to use a gun. Even more fortunate is the off the grid type land left to him by his grandmother. The dialogue back and forth between Joe and his grandmother via letters she prewrote for him are a nice touch. Overall character development and story line is pretty good with no real suspend disbelief moments.
The only real issue I had with this book is the odd relationship and conflict between Joe and his love interest. The amount of animosity she shows when he tries to help her is over the top and unrealistic. There are a few examples of poor research when it comes to firearms, but nothing too horrible.
The book ends with a cliffhanger and a coming sequel. I’ll definitely look for it when it is out.
Kevin Pierce does a bang up job narrating a wide range of characters with an uncredited female voice for grandma.
I was given this free audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
