In this case the P in litrPg clearly meant “pun” which, while an amusing gimmick, wasn’t nearly enough to set it apart from other books exactly like this. The 18 year old character talked and acted like a 9 year old, the effeminate man-servant was painfully cringy, all the adversaries were the exact same template, and the main character was indestructible which removed any sense of stakes ever. Insufferably arrogant while trying oh so very hard to not come across as such. In a word: pretentious.

(If I seem overly invested at taking this novel down a notch, it’s because I still feel slighted by how much of my time I gave to this thing.)

Really, the voice work was all this book had going for it. Aside from the way too young sounding 18 year old, the rest of the narration was fantastic.
