My friend at work would not shut up about this book and finally I gave in and downloaded it. Upon finishing the book I instantly bought the 6 book series on audible. I just have to say that Jeff Hays does an amazing job narrating these books, the range of the voices he uses is amazing and makes the whole audiobook experience brilliant. Matt Dinniman’s plot is amazing and hard to describe, but aliens are arseholes and we are disposable entertainment for a cosmic game/reality show.
It sounds dumb, it sort of is,
However the world Matt builds (and Jeff narrates) becomes some complex and involving. I have cheered my head off as characters screw over uncaring “sophisticated” alien overlords and cried and raged when awesomely written scumbag characters have beset our motley crew of hero’s.
As of writing this review I have listened to 5 of the, as of yet, 6 published books. I haven’t started the sixth book as I don’t want to be “out of books” until I know book seven is on its way. If this series does not reach some sort of conclusion it will suck. Hopefully the rumors that book seven is scheduled for later in 2024 are true.
