Considering all 10 books were only a single credit, it was a good value since i was looking for a distraction and escape.
Overall, it’s a decent effort if you ignore some of the less than stellar qualities. It’s is well constructed, has interesting characters and imaginative worlds, a good story with exceptional narration.
It does drag on a bit. The first book is just ok but it sets up the rest of the series. It gets more interesting if you can just hold on, not that it is painful or anything.
It doesn’t know quite what it wants to be or which audience it wants to attract. Sometimes it reads like a children’s book. Things are explained in simple terms. Kisses are extremely chaste. Has a fairy tale quality. Other times, I think it is inspired by Edward and Bella in Twilight, only in a younger audience kind of way. The narrator reads like he is reading to children, so he be seems confused, too, He is a very talented voice actor, and to be honest, he was the only reason I could stick to the series.
Some moments are fun and satisfying. When the lovers are depressed, bored and pining for each other while apart, well then, me, too.
Worth sticking with. Nikki was my favorite character by far.
