The way to know if a one off novella is well written is to be fully satisfied upon completion. Often times the glimpse of life that we are presented lacks the depth needed for fulfillment. However Lilly Morton gives us 2 imperfect halves destined to become 2 wholes with the admittance of love. While the flashbacks to them as children becoming friends are quick, they embody the why of their long lasting friendship. Their banter is natural but not without bumps as both men fail to see in themselves the not only other strangers see but what they see in each other. With a bit of octogenarian insight, we finally get the moment that changes it all, the moment to be fully vulnerable with the other and it makes all the difference. Joel Leslie does a great job of differentiating Freddie and Darcy without them being so of the mark that you couldn’t see them together. The moments both simple and intimate are enhanced with Joel’s performance. This is a perfect quick listen while doing chores around the house or simply needing a romantic mental break.
