I always enjoy books by Phil Williams. This one is no exception. I expected a good story and that’s exactly what I got! Williams often tackles subjects considered taboo from a realistic perspective. His characters are believable and his scenarios are plausible.

In this book James Harris (the protagonist) is a college professor. He has a relationship with a student who he later married. Their relationship is not the norm. She’s a psychologist, beautiful, manipulative and into extreme role playing for her sexual satisfaction (including violence and rape).

When their home is broken into one evening James is sleeping in the guest bedroom. He believes his wife will be safe because he overheard the intruders asking where he is. He hides in a crawl space instead of coming to her defense. He was wrong. His wife is murdered.

Protocol for the police is to look at the spouse first. James doesn’t want to admit to cowardice and tells the police that he slept through the invasion. He begins an investigation of his own tracking valuable coins stolen from him. His investigation leads him to unexpected suspects, his new knowledge could get him killed…

Gary Bennett does an excellent job narrating.

This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!
