Don’t get me wrong, the book isn’t bad at all.
I just feel there are some elements lacking.
Real Physics based game, ok. Where’s the physics?
This had so much potential, interactions between elements, gravity, creation of new elements….
Characters are okay, nothing great about them, Jim gets on my nerves asking to drink all the time
Not to mention, DECADES pass and the characters have NO DEVELOPMENT (with an excuse that their physical brains haven’t developed, so their ingame brains can’t….), come on….
The post update deaths alone should make for an absurd seinen-like development of every single character that is exploring the world tree
I feel that if there was more research done in order to create this book, through physics, character creation and development, it would be 5/5
Narration was okay, what bothered me was the voice effects (radio and echoing, WHY, just WHY)
I’m going through and picking up the second book, hoping a lot of this gets fixed as the world tree gets progressively harder
