The story has a number of good points. The overarching concepts had tons of potential and were, broadly at least, well executed. The MC’s mental trauma in particular was well done. However, several of the other characters tried too hard to be quirky and funny and came off as annoying caricatures instead, and most of the sister’s involvement was incredibly predictable. I never felt as though there was any tension in terms of plot or character development beyond the first few chapters.

For audio, the narrators were excellent, but the sound effects quickly grew tedious and at times were so badly balanced that they drowned out the narration. The music was repetitive, generic and overused. The sound design is the primary factor stopping me from buying the next book.
