right? they do a good job ramping the stakes up for a sequel, but I rather would have seen a situation where Damon breaks Melina’s trust in a key way that set’s up a lot of shame as the plot resolves followed by a monster-coming-to-terms- with-his-monstrosity (like hellboy or swamp thing in the third book.
if this is the empire of the series or the Darkest hours of a larger story, then maybe I didn’t need the happy ending.
