This is the first book in The Inheritance Series. An intriguing book the writing was good. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters interesting. The characters were well developed and thought out. Laurence Riley and Quentin d’Arcy are the MC’s of this book. Romance is not the focus of this book, it is there but more as a side plot. There was addict, a tree, a piano, tarot cards, a flower shop, an Earl, Green Man, Pagans, odd weather, new friends, mothers, fighting and so much more in this book. I was a little concerned about listening to this book because it doesn’t have an HEA at the end but a HFN. And not having read anything by this author previously I wasn’t sure what that would mean with her writing. But I am glad that I did listen it is worth the 12+ hours of listening.

Here is a quote from the book, “I gotta go clean up the mess,” he muttered, “or Mom’s gonna kill me.” “Uh-huh.” Jack smirked, then popped out of existence, imploding into that wisp of green before he disappeared completely. Laurence grabbed his keys and hurried out to go do heavy lifting at two in the morning. Great. Just great.”. There is more but you will need to listen to the book which I can recommend.

Joel Leslie is the narrator of this book and he does a great job. I think that the sound of his natural voice is good for these characters. He is really good about making each character sound different so that you know who is talking or thinking. He has movement to his voice, so he is not monotone (very important). He shows emotions through his reading and is constant about how he speaks throughout the book. For me I think that he made this book more enjoyable than if I had read it myself. Well done, both the story and the narration left me wanting more. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.
