The characters are likable and the cat is cute. The narrator was doing a bizarre laugh in the prior books and has been better about not doing the robotic, forced lols.

The writing of the backstory and emotional dialogue is sooooooo bad. It’s so awkward that I had to fast forward through it. It reads like a child’s attempt at “serious” literature. Character development needs work. The stuff about his ex and “the river” and his parents make him sound pathetic.
