If the emp genre is your thing, dive into this one, no cause to hesitate.
This series was my 2nd pick. Only discovered after wasting 3 hrs into my 1st pick & asking for a refund. Prime example of excellent business- otherwise I may have never “gambled” on this gem within its genre after my 1st pick being written for & by someone without memory or care of an actual plot that makes sense.
This author, on the other hand, knows how to keep a pace moving & give us characters whom we can be empathic to & hate at the same time. As he takes us cross country, he subtlety exposes us to the variety of cultures that contribute to our society & leave lasting impressions within their communities – good & bad.
He keeps the pace fluctuating with each pocket of characters, allowing the series itself to never get dull. With nothing more gory or shocking than what the reality of the situation would likely be in reality, nor is anything too glossed over. Though the lack of terribly foul mouths is admittedly not as realistic is real life – it is undoubtedly an editing choice the reader can appreciate. The reader is treated as an intelligent adult, who can keep track of the storyline, doesn’t need a hand held & who, for a change, isn’t always 100% certain their favorite characters are going to prevail and the villians get what’s coming to them.
