4.5 out of 5 stars

Sometimes I can write a synopsis to explain the story and sometimes I suck at it. This is one of those times, but here is one written by the author: “When a neighboring group is struck by ruthless raiders led by the fearsome Connor McDaniels, they must form an uneasy alliance with Megan’s new family. She doesn’t take kindly to newcomers, but they will need every pair of hands they can get to fight off the raiders. After McDaniels turns his sights on Megan’s people, she plans an assault that will put an end to the threat he poses once and for all—she’ll need every person she can get at her side. But first, she has to learn to trust them.”

This one definitely had a lot more action than the other books. It was much less about prepping and much more about taking out the strongest oppositional force. I liked that, it felt like it breathed some new life into this series and it definitely shook a lot of things up.

We have the same cast of characters who are all trying to figure out how to live with this “new normal” life that is stripped of most of what they would have called essentials just months ago. Tempers will flare and the work still needs to be done every day.

I can’t talk much about the last third of the story since it involves some major plot points, but know that you are in for some crazy changes. Also, as I said above, I liked those changes and it felt like it was adding a lot of different depth to the story.

All of the choices that the Lodge made, seemed appropriate. Especially with the group of people there and the different personalities that they all had. Sadly, once again talking about it here would spoil the story — so I can’t!

The narration provided by Andrew Tell has really been a shining star of this series. It allows for the plot to continue but each person feels a little more real.

I was voluntarily provided with a copy of this audiobook. It has not affected my review in any way.
