While I didn’t read or listen to Book 1 in the series, I still found it to very entertaining. Since parts of the first book were explained here and there, I was able to piece together the important aspects pretty quickly. This story had a large cast and it did require some concentration to keep everybody straight. I loved the magic, adventure and camaraderie but the characters did tend to ramble on at times. Thirsty was a bit of a stereotype but entertaining nonetheless. The real highlight for me was the masterful narration of Jeff Hays. Each character had their own unique voice and the accents were great. The cartoon cat was wonderful! He is the consummate professional and never ceases to amaze me. I thoroughly enjoyed this and would recommend it.
