I flew through this book and it was a little scary as the author brought the noise a little close to home. I live in Windsor right by Detroit where most of the planning in the start happened. I could picture the author’s descriptions as the story went along. Personally, I don’t think there is anyone as prepared for disaster as this family was, unless maybe the author’s family but this made the book even better. There are tons of pop culture and videogame references so if you like modern games this will hit you right in the ears. You just love to hate a few of the characters and that is what makes this a good listen. When you are actively rooting against characters, moaning and groaning just at the mention of them then you know you are invested. On the other hand you just learn to love our main character and her family. If you are like me and love a descriptive cross country apocalyptic roadtrip this story is for you. I always love when the apocalypse and Kevin Pierce are partying together because trouble is always brewing and he definitely has a knack for performing it. I have listened to several of his performances and he really does have the voice of the apocalypse. His tone and character’s voices are very well done and I really enjoyed this listen. I am moving on to book 2.
