I suppose the main female character was written like this for a reason, but it doesn’t detract from 20+ hours of eye rolling, unnecessary apologies from an emotionally abused woman. While the ending partially redeemed her character, I could not help but be immensely frustrated with her and almost dropped the book on multiple occasions.

That being said, the magic system is very interesting and well done. The world building was similarly well executed, but these silver linings can’t save an ultimately frustrating experience brought on by the behavior and attitudes of the main characters.
