I wasn’t sure if I was going to continue after the first book but book 2 more than makes up for it. The first book felt a little too mono chromatic but in retrospect it was just laying out the ground work for world and its systems. Here the characters expand and the story grows to a full spectrum now that the rules have been laid out and Oster takes full advantage of it.

Nate and company are brought to life in grand detail thanks to the full cast at SBT giving a real feel to the different characters and their eclectic personalities. James also brings a rare level of drama to the position of narrator even in the simple transitions of the chapters while upbeat or foreboding tones to help with foreshadowing.

I really enjoy that the main character here isn’t just magically OP compared to so many books in recent memory as well. It really helps with character development.

Great book, looking forward to the Third!
