This book series hooked me from the very beginning. The characters are easy to like and the plot captivating. It’ll also scare the sh*t out of you when you realize that not only could this scenario actually happen, but very, very few of us are prepared for it.
There have been multiple times throughout these books where I have said to my husband, “no way. things wouldn’t get this bad that fast, there’s no way!” But evidently the author based this book on actual events that occured following the complete collapse of government in I think Columbia (?) a few years back as well as the post hurricane Katrina sh*t show in New Orleans. I had a first row seat for that so I can back up the events that are referred to in this book
A note of warning. I began listening to this book in the middle of a power outage brought on by extreme wind and rain that lasted over 24 hours while also home alone with my 9-year-old while my husband was 2000 miles away, trying to find an available flight home. I HIGHLY recommend not starting this book under those conditions. I had to set it aside for a few days until after my husband was home safe and sound and life had returned to normal.
