I liked the story itself. While a little predictable and lacked true originality I found the characters and plot compelling!
The writing however was very juvenile and basic. It was so boring, especially the repeated phrasing, “Ox, Ox, Ox, Ox, Ox, Ox, Ox, Ox, Ox!” We get it! And repeating sentiment’s like “My daddy always said I’d get shit!” He must have said that 50 times in the book. There were no complex thoughts or sentences! Everything was short staccato expressions! Written at about a sixth grade level! And the narrator’s monotone reading did not help this simple writing style. I will give props to the narrator for his accents. But beyond that it was hard to stay awake listening to him.
