I understand we need an awful back story for our tormented anti-hero.
however, even though I understand we live in harsh times with our “leaders” behaving like Dick Tracey’s gallery of rouges, I still need my hard as a nails-man-with-no-name, dark hero to have an actual heart of gold.

This story dipped too far, for too long into the neither realm with out enough counter-balance in the glorious sunshine.

I came away with a slightly nauseous feeling wondering if I want to spend the next 6 books ( or so ) cheering for this military-murder-machine.

Plus the plot had great big arrows telling us where the story was going, an even had a great big “ THE END ?” when it was over.

Maybe just skip this novella and just pick up the real FIRST book that has all the scary monsters in it.
