The reviews tell me this: it evokes strong emotions and it creates an internal conflict between what we think is right vs what we feel for the characters. The internal conflict I felt about the characters is what makes this such a strong story. Yes, I believe that it’s wrong to have a romantic relationship between a minor and the person who almost raised her. Of course. It’s cringeworthy. But it’s a love story and I was both rooting for and disgusted by their relationship. I read reviews blasting the story because of the reader’s reactions and internal moral compass. But that’s what makes this book so good.
