Rarely do I find a book that I can’t finish. This one I could barely start. Only about 3 hours into the story, I had to put it down and move on. Reading other reviews they say things like “it’s slow to start” and “it gets better further in”, well I just can’t get further in. There are mainly just two things that I can’t handle. One: When the text says the at a character chews, gulps, “wetly laughs”, ect. the narrator proceeds to actually make these noises in the most hideously disgusting fashion possible, and it just keeps happening. Two: The author won’t stop with the negative foreshadowing. in 3 hours, there’s been 5-6 times where the MC makes a decision and the narrator ends the sentence with “little did he know that he would regret that decision for the rest of his life” or something just as cryptic or similar.
