Oh man, this is a book.

The performance was just okay. There’s some weird issues with it but this happens a lot I’ve noticed in military books and novels. The narrator reading the terminology wrong, like “em Kay(MK) 48” instead of mark 48, but that’s a minor gripe.

This book is really two books in one. The book about the author’s experience flying combat missions in the A-10 is great. The book about how this guy got friendzoned so hard chasing another guy’s woman in the desert is stupid.

It reeks of cringe and desperation how the author was so thirsty trying to win the affections of this girl. From a military bearing it also reeks of conduct unbecoming of an officer. It’s a good thing this guy didn’t get himself or any of his squadron mates killed spending seemingly every waking minute fawning over his maintenance officer.

Well over half of this book was a disappointment. The parts discussing the war and the use of the A-10 and attacking enemy ground targets and such barely carries this thing and makes it bearable. Barely.
