This is a very different take on the post-apocalyptic story. The nuclear holocaust is the main issue and this story does an excellent job of describing the issues that go along with such an event. As we are not truly feeling the risk of such an event at this point in time, the vague reasoning behind the event in this story leaves the story just a little bit lacking in the realism department. However the rest of the story more than makes up for that small issue. The story follows a few key characters in different storylines and does so quite well. Always engaging so you will want to just keep listening. Although this book is only almost 7 hours long it does a reasonable job of telling the whole story. I did feel the end coming although when it arrived it seemed a bit rushed. This one could use a good follow up novel. The story “Alas Babylon” plays an important role in this story and that makes me want to read that one as well. It is not needed for this story though.

Andrew B. Wehrlen did an excellent job bringing the story to life and his voice fit the genre well. Although this was written by a woman and there were a couple of major female roles in this book I did not notice any issues with his voiced characters.
