The premise was great, but the execution of telling the story didn’t quite work out. The story had too much exposition and too little doing. I hope that improves if there are more stories in the series.

I liked the characters, but it felt like I saw too little of them. Again, too much exposition about the situation and not enough of them doing things.

That said there was a real burr in my side when it came to the characters. How someone that is married to a prepper so lackadaisical about being prepared? Why didn’t he keep a better eye on his stuff when his family depended on it? Why did everyone sit on their butts for two days before acting?

This issues made the start of the book hard. The story recovered, but it made for a less enjoyable listen. Others might disagree, of course. Tastes vary.

The narration was great. Kevin Peirce always delivers.

The bottom line, it was a decent book that could have been better.
