Disappointing chapter in the Ishmael Wong story line. I’ve really enjoyed having sci-fi that is not Mech Warriors or Spec Ops fighting off aliens, or humans focused on killing each other. That said, at some point the author needs to provide some content. There’s ample opportunity to create situations in Ishmael’s travels, but Lowell spends far too much time describing the making of meals, the brewing of coffee, and painfully polite conversation. The dialogue could come from an old Chip and Dale cartoon. The derelict space ship at the beginning of the novel is the kind of content that is interesting. Eventually the focus on filler just irritates me as a listener. This is at best half of a book as compared to the earlier books in this series. I’ll be asking for a refund on this title. No sense in keeping it as there is zero chance that I would listen to it again.
