Oh, this had just tons of emotion in the writing and in the narrator’s performance of the story. Poor Jasper, he is drowning in guilt over a single decision that changed everything – his choice to move to his own bed and let roommate Lacy go to sleep alone. So after her suicide, he is completely lost to his grief and guilt. It’s a pretty powerful story, of mourning and finding a way to keep moving forward, to keep living. Jasper and Rob are complicated characters, very different, but their connection to Lacy starts to brings them together. Their developing relationship is well done and definitely has its challenges, but I liked them together. To me, the relationship side of the plot is good but not really the focus of the story, which was a beautiful depiction of friendship, grief and complex family trauma.
