I expected an Alice in Wonderland retelling. I expected some psychological torture given where Alice is. I did not expect tons of suggestions of rape, along with sadism.
I’m not against those subjects being in books – HOWEVER, if I find them in a book where I’m not expecting them? Automatic fail.
If you enjoy that? You’ll probably Love this. Without those scenes, I could have enjoyed the book. I loved the twist on all the characters – especially our Shadowy cat. But I wasn’t in the mood for sexual cruelty.
Not my thing.
I will be looking up more books narrated by Jamie Treselyan as he did a fantastic job with character voices.
