What does Franklin Horton have against people named Kyle Cross? In the Way of Dan series another man named Kyle Cross features prominently, strangely enough before writing that Franklin also wrote a character with the same name in book four of Borrowed World, either he’s a big fan (hater?) of that name or just somehow forgot that he’d already made and killed a Kyle Cross in this series.

I typically really enjoy the Franklin Horton books and have listened to a lot of the Mad Mick, Way of Dan and Locker Nine series and that’s where some of my criticism of this book comes from. I maybe be misremembering but for some reason several times a detail in this series is ‘ret-conned’ or changed after the fact. in the earlier books Jim has two NVGs devices, one at home and one in his get home bag, but suddenly I’m No time for Mourning he’s only got the one, and Jim has the bump fire stock in this book instead of Garry like in the previous book- I might’ve missed something there but that was weird to me. In the second book of this trilogy April went from killing three men to just two, I’m not sure why that bothers me but it seems like the author should at least know what his own characters have done! That might be a consequence of him writing so many books so close together. My complaints are minor but bug me and they might bug you, if you’re into the borrowed world after the first three books keep going it’s still pretty good!
