Jack Olsen’s gift of storytelling combined with Kevin Pierce’s narration is a perfect match. Just when I think I’ve heard it all within the true crime genre, a man like Arthur Shallcross surfaces. His crimes were so horrific that at times it felt blurred in what was real or what was his fantasy. While the killer through his accounts wanted to know why he did what he did and felt as he did, the reader/listener wanted an answer to the why as well. The psyc’s report at the conclusion was a possible insight but certainly not conclusive. I was disturbed through the whole story how the two women in his dual life adored him (among other things) unconditionally even after the awful disclosure of his actions. However their voices throughout the story give clear understanding of why.
