Possible spoiler:
This book taught me that I really need to read reviews before I step out of my reading comfort zone. I was fine at the start, but like many others, once Wavy turned 13, things went downhill sweepingly fast and I had to DNF. As someone who works with children, romanticizing this type of “relationship” is sickening. There is a reason age of consent exists. Crushes are one thing. Sexual acts between a CHILD and adult (grown man in this case) are NOT OK. Period. It isn’t sweet that they formed this trauma bond. It isn’t romantic that they were able to find each other in the chaos. No. It was an adult man excusing sex with a child “because he loves her.” (And because they love each other.) Having read positive reviews, I wanted to stick it out, but I just can’t mentally/emotionally rationalize this story. I commend those who finished and found something wonderful in the ugly.

Side note: I thought the narrator did very well and found the writing to my liking. I just can’t get past the content.
