It’s a wonderful introduction to the series. The characters are set up nicely and the town has a rich history that I’m waiting for Jolene to remember and learn more about what’s changed in the years she’s been away. Weird things keep happening to her and it starts with her new menagerie and her growing collection of attractive men. It’s steamy, intriguing, and there’s plenty of mystery. The plot definitely sets things up for the next book, and in this one there isn’t really a beginning, middle, or end of a story here. There’s just details about the town and general plot development for the future. There might be some F/F scenes later in the series as the main character is fluid in her choices.

I rated it a three because I kept hoping for something more to happen. I like when prequels still have a bit of a plot with an ending, even if it’s an open ending. It allows for the story to seem like a story rather than just a teaser trailer. This teaser trailer of a book was indeed good and set up the world quite nicely and I am intrigued as to what secrets Jolene will find in her hometown.

The narrator did a wonderful job! She was amazing with all the different accents! Each character was voiced with enough distinction to differentiate the characters. There were some times where I had some trouble figuring out if the voice was for conversation or inner thoughts, but overall it wasn’t a big issue. I listened at 1.1x speed.
