Alexis Hall is a fantastic writer and Joel Leslie is an absolute favorite of mine. This review has nothing to do with the quality of the series. I just feel like there should be a content warning for the whole series because it’s not a fluffy sexy romance all the way through.

**Spoilers for the whole series**

Caspian’s backstory is heavy and descriptive teenage sexual and emotional abuse. We sort of hear about it in the first two books, but a lot of his trauma is talked about and described in detail in the third book. There two scenes of attempted sexual assault in the latter half of book 3 as well. The villain is a serial sexual predator with multiple victims in the main story who talk about their experiences with this person. Sexual and domestic violence are huge themes throughout the series with a lot of description. Each book opens with a scene from the perspective of someone who commits violence in the series as well, so it can be a pretty disturbing way to start the book.

It’s just a really rough series if that’s not what you’re expecting, especially if you’re coming to this series from Boyfriend Material. It’s different in tone and content in a way that felt really jarring. By no means was the book bad. Alexis Hall is a fantastic writer. But if you’re looking for a funny or fluffy sexy romance, then this isn’t really it. If you want sexy, kinky (in a RACK way), fun, and dramatic Alexis Hall try “For Real.”
