I always loved Dean. I was hoping and expecting his story for a long time. Was this Dean’s story? Not so much… it was Jonas’s story. He was our main narrator, most of the story we spend it in Jonas’s mind and it was mostly all about him.

Since I first read this story I was a bit dissatisfied, especially in the first half of the story, but I was hoping that what with time having passed and listening to it, I might see it anew and come to love it (like it happened with Risk Taker). But it wasn’t meant to be.

The story felt unnecessarily long when it came to all the model agency shenanigans, the fashion things, all the new and fleeting side characters. It was absolutely marvelous though when at its quiet moments… Jonas with his brother, Dean and Ruby, Dean and Jonas at his home…

Now narration wise… Joel is a hit, especially when it comes to contemporary stories, but here what with Jonas’s accent and at times not being able to distinguish if Dean was talking or someone else, I have to admit that it wasn’t his greatest work.
