A 13 year old girl can’t give consent to a 24yo old man. It doesn’t work that way.
Is it okay for a 13yo girl to have a crush on a man twice her age who makes her feel safe? Yes.
It is not okay for said man to return affection in a sexual way.
I am shocked this book went into such graphic detail about a child having sex with a grown man. It pushes the concept that if a girl has a sad life then it’s okay for an older man to distract her from her troubles with foreplay.
This felt like child porn and I have never been so disturbed by the normalization of child sexual abuse. I finished it hoping for a surprise twist that explains how messed up the views throughout the book are but instead, the end is the author rubbing in how the girl looks the same in her twenties that she did at 13. That doesn’t make it okay.
