Well performed by the narrator.
Interesting kind of fantasy fulfillment with the way plot devises are used. The magic is familiar enough that the book didn’t need to waste time on pointless details. The author seems to understand what makes for interesting information & what makes boring stats.
The MC is mostly believable. I enjoyed his behavior & inner monologging.
The diversity of characters was nice, but it was at the expense of any kind of complete story. This will probably be a long series & the author took a big bite of a story to pay off down the road.
As first books go, I’m hooked for more. I’ve also been disappointed after strong first installments before.
*fingers crossed*
