I have read & listened to a few Freya Barker stories and although I can’t say this one is a favourite, it is still packed with the usual Barker goodness I have come to love. The fact that this author features a bit more mature characters is an automatic plus for me. She can certainly flesh out the characteristics that make a good mature thinking person.
This particular story falls down slightly because of a couple things. One, there were a few anomalies in the storyline that had me questioning the validity & cohesiveness of the story. They weren’t big issues, but they were annoying & for me, pushed my enjoyment of the story down a little.
The second point that became a slight problem for me was Jamal’s narration at certain times throughout. At specific times, it became very staccato like, more like his phrasing, tempo or intonation was incorrect which interrupted the flow of the narration. In saying that though, his voice has a smooth tone to it & is very easy to listen to.
Ada Sinclair was awesome as Lucy and portrayed her vulnerability and strength quite believably.
The story between Bo & Lucy was enjoyable and I loved the feistiness of Lucy, despite her tragic background and in addition, in spite of Bo’s painful life experiences, he was a wonderful balance for her.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this story.
