It started out alright. And it has some interesting concepts and settings that I really like for a sci-fi. But the characters all felt very flat and simplistic. And the plot felt like it was driving the characters instead of the other way around. None of the characters or plot points felt like they went more than skin deep.

I didn’t mind at first, as it can be nice to have some lighter fare now and then, like the book version of a summer blockbuster you won’t remember a year later but is fun in the moment. Unfortunately, the simplistic writing lost me around halfway through and I started listening at 1.5x speed just to finish it up and move on to something more interesting.
