This book is absolutely magical! I love the nod to the old magic and beliefs of the druids and old England. This is a beautiful and magical book. Lily Morton knows how to spin a yarn. Barnaby is Lord Greenwood, the lord of his ancestral home and protector of the old growth forest around his village. His home is down on its luck though with money troubles and now someone wants to buy his home and the forest and tear it all down to build fancy homes for the idle rich. The Holly King though has heard Barnaby defend his home and the land and grants him a boone. Cosmo is one of the lovely statues in his home come to life. And they have 5 magical days together. And Cosmo has a mission to save the forest and Barnaby’s home. But their time is short and Barnaby doesn’t want Cosmo to leave at the end of their time together. This story is full of old magic and lots of love. The story within the story here is just as good as the one being spun between the two MCs. All the stars!!! You have to listen to this one. Joel Leslie is easily one of the best audiobook narrators out there and he always adds so much to every book he does. I honestly think he is at his best with Lily Morton’s stories.
