I haven’t had much experience reading motorcycle club romances. In fact, this is only my third one, the other two being in the same ‘Hell’s Ankhor’ series earlier this year. I saw that ‘Tex’ was also being offered for review and requested a free copy of it as well. This post is my voluntary opinion of ‘Tex’.

In this fifth book of the series, foster and Club brothers Tex and Jazz work out just what they each want their relationship to be. Jazz is fresh out of prison and still working to keep his love tor Tex under wraps. Tex, meanwhile, is dealing with new revelations about his feelings for Jazz. What follows is a slow-burn, gay-for-you (or possibly demi-sexual) motorcycle club romance.

I’m not a super-fan of a slow-burn romance, but Ali Lyda and Aiden Bates do a wonderful job of explaining what it is about these characters that is keeping them apart. When they do finally get together it is completely believable. Tex and Jazz’s story is well-written with great characterization. There is a nice transition from friends to lovers in the writing of their story.

There’s some good MC action too. The ongoing thread in the series with the rival Club, Vipers, culminates with a couple of tension-building scenes that come to a satisfying ending. With plot points involving ‘club business’ and ‘club justice’, this book is more ensemble-like than ‘Rebel’ and ‘Maverick’ (the previous two I listened to) and I was appreciative that the other club members weren’t excluded. I like them all.

This is my first listen with David Allen Vargo as narrator. His dialogue interpretation is stellar. Overall, it’s a great performance.

Recommended.
