I loved this story line. I was hoping, based on the plot of the previous book, that we would get some new characters to focus on. The Liberty Crew characters added a new dimension to the world of Hell’s Ankhor. Dare and The Kid’s relationship is sweet and spicy; it also seemed supremely real. The awkwardness of their initial interactions, and the silly communication mistakes that they both make, are how people really act when they’re falling for each other.

I don’t think this story would have been anywhere near as enjoyable or successful without David Allen Vargo’s perfect delivery. I’m caught myself wondering how many times he had to have read this book before he recorded. How can he make it sound this real, natural, and emotional. Some narrators focus on the dialogue with their performance, but I’ve found that the internal monologues are so important in these stories, that they really need high priority. Vargo handles all aspects of this reading so well. I will continue to say it. I’ll listen to anything he records!
