“Tru” is only the second Hell’s Ankhor series audio book I’ve listened to and with both I’ve become a fan of narrator David Allen Vargo. His narration really is a performance, and a terrific one at that. The deep, gravely quality to his voice is pitch-perfect for Beau, as is his lighthearted, playful delivery for Tru, and his variety of distinct voices including for the female characters is impressive.
Tru and Beau are such well-developed and imperfect characters, and the tentative unfolding of their steamy fake-turned-real relationship is both intense and slow-burning and felt natural. Their HEA is worth the emotional angst (courtesy of Beau with his trust and family issues because Tru is a sweetheart!) it takes to get there. This was a heavier story than I’d expected given its lighthearted beginning, but I appreciated how the arsonist subplot was actually crucial to the overall storyline. I received this free review copy audio book by request and have left this honest review voluntarily.
