Strap in — Unraveling is a rocky road. It’s rough and gritty and real. Seeming almost autobiographical without the polished sheen of a more typical romance novel, the HEA you eventually get leaves you sighing in relief while still feeling wrung out from the emotional journey of getting there. Set primarily in the 80’s, it references the AIDS crisis in a lived way. Unraveling is a coming-out story about finding yourself and redefining family. While I wasn’t necessarily prepared for how real and raw and at times uncomfortable I would feel listening to the story, I’m grateful for the journey that gave me a new perspective and made me even more grateful for the roads that were paved before me that make my own story in many ways easier to bear.

David Allen Vargo did an incredible job bringing this story by Rick R Reed to life. As a sidenote, the audible version is an enhanced experience with real background noises that bring the scene to life (eg plates clinking in a restaurant, background noise at a party, etc). Very well done, highly recommend from both the content and the production aspects.
