I’m a regular listener of The Moth podcast, founded by the author, and heard a story he told, and he mentioned this book. Of course, I had to get it! It is insane that to this day there are so many things we don’t know about the extent of the cruelties of slavery.
I loved how the author managed to sprinkle in the history of the region, while still telling a gripping story. the characters are all well written, and no one is particularly good, at least the upper echelon, but I couldn’t wait to find out how they would act, and in some sense care about them.
I couldn’t stop listening!!!
